Rope car facility Relaunched at Palani Temple

The redesigned rope car facility has been launched at the famous hill shrine of sri Dhandayudhapaniswamy temple in Palani. It was inaugurated by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister K.R. Periyakaruppan. The service was discontinued after a mishap claimed four lives in August last year.

Also a fully automated “panchamirtham” making unit was inaugurated. The rope car facility has been redesigned at a cost of Rs. 1.46 crore and the panchamirtham unit at an investment of Rs. 1.43 crore.

The rope car would travel at a speed of two metre per second instead of the earlier 3.5 metre per second. The new service has eight carriages with four to go up and four to come down. The one-way trip takes about 3 minutes and 400 people can make the journey in an hour.

Periyakaruppan said the temple would be provided a modern tonsuring hall, more seating at the winch station and a large dinning hall, at a total cost of Rs. 2.53 crore.
